President Donald Trump is making a case for his border wall to keep out illegal immigrants, saying he will work with his Republican colleagues to keep that promise.
In a tweet Tuesday, Trump said he will “work with Congress” to keep open the US-Mexico border, which has been closed for years.
Trump said, “We will keep the door open.”
The border is the most heavily guarded and heavily trafficked border in the world.
The border was heavily fortified during the height of the Great Recession and has since been closed to all but the most trusted border-crossers.
Trump’s tweet is part of a series of tweets from the president, who has promised to reopen the border and has been at odds with Republicans who have insisted that it must remain closed.
He also recently issued an executive order instructing agencies to begin the process of revamping the nation’s border control system.
